Maintenance Annex Guidance, Change 6 (MAG 6)

Maintenance Annex Guidance, Change 6 (MAG 6)
On June 1, 2016, the FAA and EASA released Maintenance Annex Guidance, Change 6 ("MAG 6"), which contains a significant policy change that eliminates the MAG 5 requirement that "New components must be traceable to the OEM as specified in the Type Certificate holder's Parts Catalogue."
This change eliminates the need to trace a part back to the OEM.

To support our partnership with you, we want to ensure that you are fully aware of these changes and any impact it might have on your operations. Under MAG 6, traceability of a new part is to the "Production Approval Holder," which is defined by the FAA as "the person allowed to produce a part or article in accordance with its approved design and approved quality system," and can be the form of a production certificate OR a PMA OR a TSO authorization. 14 CFR § 21.1(b) (6). KLX will continue to provide you with the appropriate traceability to satisfy MAG 6 requirements.
Since KLX is an FAA-accredited distributor, it is already required to receive Standard Parts with a manufacturer's certificate of conformity. MAG 6 should result in no changes regarding documentation of KLX Standard Parts.
In our ongoing effort to invest in our customers' success, and to ensure there is no disruption in service for you, KLX is in the process of certifying existing inventory and ensuring that all KLX suppliers comply with the new requirements of MAG 6 prior to the stated deadline of October 1, 2016. We will continue to stay apprised of any new developments and any impact they might have on your operations, and we will make every effort to keep you informed.
