Boeing [NYSE: BA] announced today that it has completed its acquisition of KLX Aerospace Solutions to enhance its growing services business and deliver greater value to its customers. The acquisition positions Boeing to compete and win in the $2.8 trillion, 10-year aerospace services market.
KLX, a major global provider of aviation parts and services in the aerospace industry, provides a clear path for Boeing’s services business to accelerate growth. Its capabilities include distribution and supply chain services. KLX currently markets and distributes products for approximately 2,400 manufacturers and offers approximately 1 million catalog items.
KLX is also a leading supplier of chemicals and composites, which complements Aviall’s portfolio, allowing Boeing to offer commercial, defense, business and general aviation customers a broader range of offerings.

KLX announced today that it is acquiring the assets of John Hassall, LLC's laboratory operations. Johns Hassall is a wholly owned division of Novaria Group.
Specifically, KLX will be acquiring the Laboratory Controlled at Source (LCS) lab assets, and expert technical personnel associated with managing the lab. This acquisition further supports KLX Aerospace Solutions' focus on providing Engine and Engine-related customers with differentiated and industry leading services to support their unique product and quality requirements. These newly acquired capabilities will allow KLX to provide the additional required testing to support the strict quality requirements of this customer base.

KLX Secures Solution for MAG6’s Authorized Release Certificate Requirement
As previously communicated, the FAA and EASA released Maintenance Annex Guidance, Change 6 ("MAG6") in 2016. Under MAG6, new parts must be traceable to a Production Approval Holder (“PAH”) and be in satisfactory condition for installation – this includes PMA and TSOA parts. Further, an FAA Form 8130-3 Authorized Release Certificate must accompany all new parts.
Certain qualified KLX employees have obtained Delegated Airworthiness Representative, Function Code 19 status (Issuance of Original Airworthiness Approvals – FAA Form 8130-3). This status affords KLX the ability to deliver parts that satisfy our aftermarket customers’ documentation requirements under MAG6. Namely, KLX now has the ability to issue FAA Form 8130-3s on all new parts received from U.S. PAHs.
In conjunction with KLX’s ability to issue FAA Form 8130-3s, KLX has developed electronic systems and processes to enable the efficient issuance of these FAA Form 8130-3s for eligible parts. As such, KLX has the ability to issue FAA Form 8130-3 on same-day and AOG orders for eligible parts.
KLX will continue to provide Manufacturer’s Certificates of Conformity to customers who require them in addition to the FAA Form 8130-3s.
Kobe Steel Fraudulent Material Certificates
As you may know, Kobe Steel (also known as KOBELCO) recently announced that certain materials it sold were not compliant with material specifications and that certain inspection certificates had been altered to inaccurately state that products were compliant with customer and industry specifications when in fact the materials were noncompliant.
Upon receipt of Kobe Steel’s notice, KLX Inc. d/b/a KLX Aerospace Solutions (“KLX”) immediately contacted its suppliers to determine whether any supplier or any supplier’s subcontractors utilized Kobe Steel material in products provided to KLX. We are pleased to report that the overwhelming majority of KLX suppliers stated that no products were impacted by the Kobe Steel notice.

Major New Business Award
The United States Department of Defense (“DOD”), Defense Logistics Agency (“DLA”) has awarded KLX a logistics services contract to provide a broad range of aftermarket products and services to the Corpus Christi Army Depot (“CCAD”). The initial contract funding provides for up to $135 million over the ten-year total period of the contract.
The CCAD is a critical facility within the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (“AMCOM”) structure, providing comprehensive service support for such aircraft as the UH-60 Black Hawk, the AH-64 Apache, the CH-47 Chinook, the T700 engine (General Electric), and the T55 engine (Honeywell). KLX will be responsible for maintaining appropriate levels of bench stock consumables across the entire depot, with an initial scope of approximately 8,000 items at 20,000 bin locations. Site activation will occur over the next twelve months.
Customer Alert - MAG 6 Update
The FAA has issued Notice 8900.380 confirming a repair station's privilege of inspecting and approving parts for return to service that are not accompanied by the documentation required by MAG 6. As long as the parts are traceable to the Production Approval Holder (PAH) and are in a satisfactory condition for installation, a repair station may inspect any article for which they are appropriately rated and approve that part for return to service. This privilege applies whether the component is new or used, and regardless of date received.

As previously shared upon the December 2014 spin-off from B/E Aerospace, KLX will be transitioning this year to its own data center for all KLX business systems. While KLX's data infrastructure and support services will move to a new KLX-owned location, this does not represent a change in any of the KLX business applications including the ERP system for our business.
Maintenance Annex Guidance, Change 6 (MAG 6)
On June 1, 2016, the FAA and EASA released Maintenance Annex Guidance, Change 6 ("MAG 6"), which contains a significant policy change that eliminates the MAG 5 requirement that "New components must be traceable to the OEM as specified in the Type Certificate holder's Parts Catalogue." This change eliminates the need to trace a part back to the OEM.
